Shadowlands

Powers and Partial Powers

The partial powers system I use is based on what was originally "The Netbook of Amber", a mid90s Internet work, which like a lot of early Internet works fell by the wayside and are lost to antiquity; although their original authors may still have a copy in some form or other.

From that original work ‘The Fixer', salvaged a chunk for his Metal Amber website at http://amberpg.free.fr, which formed the basis from which about 40% of my Partial Powers system is derived.

I've duplicated the powers I'm using although there have now been significant modifications, firstly in the area of differences between the Pattern Reflections (Kolvir, Rebma, Tir-na Nog'th), Corwin's Pattern, and the True Pattern,  secondly in how "Power Imprints" (Pattern, Logrus, Abyss,Jewel) work, and thirdly how these all integrate with the Attributes (now significantly modified from the original)  and Endurance (completely deficient in the original) system.

Whilst the 'Fixers' work is based upon the earlier netbook, the Magic section was lost before he could convert it. Thus the sections on Sorcery, Conjuration and Magic are from work originally by  John Biles. The link to this keeps moving and the stuff is somewhat well hidden unless you know what you're looking for - try this. Again I've heavily modified these in respect the various patterns, my Attributes and Endurance systems and in the last year of so (circa 2019/2020)  made a number of significant of other changes particularly in respect of cleaning up and clarifying Conjuration and how it works and can be used, especially in respect of moving Conjoured items across Shadow. I've also re-ordered alot of the material so it makes more logical reading.

The second last section on Chi Powers is based upon Chi Powers by Jack Gulick and Rain Donaldso for their Nine Princes in Hongkong Campaign (http://www.noneuclidianstaircase.com/games/9pinhk/9prules.html) and interpretation of some of the ideas presented by Eric Wujick in the Ninjas and Superspies® RPG for Palladium Books®.  It's one of the sections I've done a substantial amount of work on so ingrates with the Attributes and Endurance system without issues.

The final section on Mogwai Powers was put together, far too quickly, when one of my potential players for the new campaign jokingly (and not thinking it possible), said she wanted to play a Pokemon™ Trainer. It needs more work, especially in terms of Mogwai Powers, damage, and Mogwai durability to be completely playable.

Note also that the most upto date information can be found in the Players Guide PDF (Currently version 1.6.1 11/06/2020). I update this first and keep it up to date for players to download. If that well known dozey word processing packing didn't generate such bloated HTML then I'd be able to keep the pages up to date, but I have to do these by hand... so meh.
