42: I need your help....

Introduction
Another week where I don’t really know how to start the log.
As I said in the last session log intro and in the
session, this is a filler scenario to get to the point where the
“hand waving” in the series gets to. It’s not without risk! You are
taking on a "Military Outpost".
I suppose a reminder that if I drop something into the scenario that you can interact with, such as the “debris” from something crashing into the Razza, then generally that’s a not too subtle hint of how to proceed. In a similar vein the ‘constellation’ when suggested by Paul was indeed the relevant way to proceed. As ever the dice gods had slightly different plans.
In relation to other things, I pretty sure you’re no longer in
position
of any body armour, your habit of keeping things in your rooms rather
than the vault meant a lot of things disappeared when you were interned
on Hyperion-8 (so probably all the Lokov-Russi armour, there were 6
troopers, and from memory Two, Three, Six, and Seven had sets of armour
in their rooms.). It’s a good job Three didn’t have the missileer in
his
room( It does only have a 4 shot magazine, and you don’t have any
reloads for it). Also as a reminder Bubba only has 2 shots left, so
taking Bubba is probably a bad idea. There are however 2
Anti-Material Rifles in the Vault, but you do need Heavy Weapons Skill
to use them (at least with proficiency, so not firing 'Wild' all the
time). Think extreme sniper rifle, 27mm x 175mm Tungstan tipped HE
rounds, Max range 1950m, 6 round box magazine. You have 6 loaded
magazines, 3 for each rifle, and an Ammo box with 21rounds left in it.
The rounds don't detonate when hitting soft targets (they just punch a
large hole through them), they are designed for use against hardened
targets.
Also from memory I believe there is at least a partial crate of grenades in the Vault. However these are for the Grenade Launcher in the Gun vault in the vault. There is also a half empty crate of "Breaching Charges". These are generally used to blow your way through airlocks when boarding ships in space. Depending on the type of door it may take several charges to blow through the door.
I probably should also put a reminder in here in relation to Damage
Resistance of Objects (DR), including armour, and the Penetration Value
of projectiles or indeed Melee Weapons. If the PV is less than or equal
to the DR then the weapon will do no damage! If the PV is greater than
the DR then it will do some damage. You should all have an electronic
copy of the "Crib Sheet" with this on. This generally means in a lot of
instances projectile pistols will not be of much use. Stunners work
differently but have limited range, 3m/10ft maximum for the pistols,
but are unaffected by armour. The PV of the Anti-Material rifle is 17.
Airlock doors typically have a DR of 24. Blast Doors will have a DR of
30 or more.
Whilst on the subject of combat reminders.. All armour has an Armour
Rating (AR). If your roll-to-hit exceeds the AR then you hit a location
where the armour isn't. As armour takes damage it's AR goes down,
reflecting the fact it now has holes in it..
Technically space suits have an AR of 20, but their DR is 2 so
basically no protection at all in terms of combat. Helmets start with
an AR of 20 but that rating applies to the helmet only, in case you get
shot in the head..
Unless you specify all shots hit the torso. A roll of 8+ hits.
If you want to hit a specific location you need to make a called shot.
This is an Aimed Shot that takes 2 actions. Small target areas such as
the hands, and including the head incur an additional -3 to hit
penalty. You need to roll 12+ to hit a called location.
I need your help......
We pickup on the morning following your enforced early departure from the Farming Colony which was supposed to be a relaxing R&R stop. At 8:00 Ryo posts a general message requesting everyone gather in the conference room at 8:45 as he has an announcement to make concearning everyone.[GM Note: Devon would only have been present if somebody went to med bay and fetched him in a wheel chair, otherwise he would have had to watch/listen in by conference link.]
Ryo starts the meeting by announcing that after a lot of
consideration he decided to ask the Androids help to restore his
memories, which he did last night. This comes as a complete surprise to
everyone including Nyx. Ryo then announces it is his intention to
retake his Throne and end the war with Pyr before it is too late, and
for which he needs everyone's help, which includes the use of the
Razza.
Nyx storms out of the room at this point clearly very upset.
Five asks him whether he still retains his recent memories as well. He confirms, as per the Android's belief, that she could restore his old memories whilst allowing him to retain all of his memories post their emergence from cryo-stasis. So yes he does retain all of those memories as well.
Three makes a statement that the "Blink Drive" will remain on the Razza. Four comments that that discussion is for a future time [GM Note: From the Series this is Two, and Six's view as well. The Blink Drive is just too much of a game changer for whom ever posesses it, and could radically alter the balance of power amoungst the corporations.]
Ryo then goes on to explain that whilst he now has his memories
back, and thus has a degree of knowledge of whom he could possibly
trust in the Ashieda Court, what he doesn't have is any up to date
intelligence data relating to whether any of them are still alive or
where they may be found or located. There is also the predicament that
he can't just walk into any Ashieda outpost for similar reasons,
including but no limited to that according to Ashieda Law he has been
tried and found guilty in absentia of Treason and has a death sentence
hanging over his head. It doesn't matter if they know that he was
framed for the murder by his step-mother so that she could place her
son on the Throne as Emperor, that is not what the population have been
led to believe. Coupled with this attacking any Ashieda outpost to gain
such information, given the current state of the war would be
detrimental to House Ashieda.
He does have one other option, although again he has no current
knowledge relating to that option. Before he was force to make his
escape from Zairon, they had recently discovered a Pyr outpost on an
out of the way and non-strategically important system. Given the way in
which the war has been progressing, at least as far as he's been able
to tell, that outpost should exist. Given its lack of strategic
importance, attacking it would be just a waste of resources, and
wouldn't have much of a symbolic impact either. The outpost in on the
2nd moon of the gas giant which is the only planet in the Miaclite
system. The Gas Giant has a ring system with 4 moons.
There follows a short discussion but Ryo just reiterates he has told them everything he knows, because everything he knows is based on his memory from 10 [GM Note: I can't remember the exact timescale, it's either 10 or 15 years and it does come up again later in the series.] years ago.
With a none to subtle hint they blink into the system behind one of the other moons. Gas giants are huge and it would have take the Marauder several hours to have circumnavigated it. The Marauders sensors are also no where near as capable of those on the Razza, and potentially even though the Marauder is far smaller than the Razza there is also the possibility that the satelite constelation they didn't initially know about could have detect it. Its not primarily what its geared to detecting, which is the signature of ships emerging from FTL. Whilst on the subject the Blink drive does also create a signature wave from when both binking out and blinking in. The difference is analagous to throwing a medicine ball into a large pond as opposed to throwing a grain of pea shingle into the same pond. Also since the only people who really know about the Blink Drive and have any data relating to its use are yourselves, recognising it for what it is and/or turning sensors to detect it, wouldn't be general practice.
Perhaps 20 seconds pass before there is a proximaty warning Alam followed by the sound of somthing colliding with the hull of the Razza. People scramble to try and get a visual of the impact location. Whilst not totally visible there does appear to be a debris field created by what ever collided with the hull.
Another hint and a discussion whilst they work out who has EVA skill before Two, Three, and Six venture out to see what may be useful in identifying what just collided with them. The dice gods mostly favoured Three and he retrieves the most strategically important piece of the debris, part of the central computer core. Whilst its completely non-functional, that technically doesn't matter to Five. As she examines it she realises its part of a constallation and they are currently in the dead zone behind the moon where it can't broadcast, so currently they are still hidden. However, given its part of a constellation there will be another satelite along in about 3 hours.
Another hint and three hous later, Two and Three assist Five in venturing out of the Marauder to hack the next satelite in line as it comes into the dead zone behind the moon. The dice gods are reasonably favourable at this point and Five gains control of the satelite and can connect up her laptop to attempt to inject a fake signature such that the Razza would appear as a wayward asteroid or ice chunk to the network. Unfortunately the dice gods turn against them at this point and the hack fails. Five then decides to try something different and inject an attack virus that will just take the network down completely. Its much more aggressive but also a much shorter live remedy, as they should be able to restore the network after a delay, although the Razza should be able to gather enough intel on the outpost and make it into orbit before they can restore the network. This hack succeeds although I'm not going to reveal the exact result of what happened other than the network did indeed go down once the Satelite resumed network communications. Five also erased the fact that it detected the presence of the Razza, and successfully implanted the debirs field data relating to the loss of the other satelite, such that it appeared it had been struck by micro-meteroites.
With the surveillance network down, the Razza can emerge from behind the moon, and take a good look at the target moon. There is indeed an outpost there. Lisa computes a jump trajectory and the Razza blinks into orbit above the location of the Outpost. They then begin imaging and scanning the outpost [GM note: As I said in the session, I didn't have a chance to paint and texture any of this. The yellow/green and white crosses are just grid markers for laying out the grid.]

James aka Six is the first to realise that somebody has "done a number on the outpost" and that it's been attacked and substantively destroyed. I initially misinterpreted Paul's aka Five's request for a Thermal Imagagy scan to determine the temperature profile of the base just in relation to such an attack, as if areas of the base were still "hot" it would indicate the attack were recent, whilst if the base was cold (ambient) then the attack occurred quite a long time ago. The majority of the base is at ambient, the exception being the rear left where the antenna and communication array is.
To save time next week there are some more images below, such as would be gained at 200m out from the base if you were flying around it in the Marauder. They may help you to determine how best to approach. If the base had active outer defenses then the Marauder would have come under significant fire before reaching this range!

[GM Hint: You may gain some additional information if you load the images into GIMP and increase the zoom]
Just as an FYI.. this is what the Outpost looked like before I "destroyed" it.
