38: The New You!

Introduction

I'm going to assume you all worked out the primary objective for this episode was to kill Two.. sorry give Two some more life. There is another element to the story line we'll get to when Matt returns from holiday. I can't really say anthing more about it.

One thing I will mention again, is that using the 'Blink Drive' you instantly go from one point in real space to another point in real space, thus if you're going to use it you need to have somewhere in mind. Using the FTL drive allows you to 'hide' whilst you're in FTL (you're undetectable untill you return to real space), and there is less of a requirement to have a specific destination in mind, although having some sort of 'destination' is useful. If you don't specify Lisa will just initiate a random 8ly (40hrs/2 days) jump.

The last thing is in relation to the combat against "The New You". I didn't bother to roll for initiative, and let you all go first (most of the time). If we'd been rolling "The New You" would have gone first all the time. I also wasn't always using all of his attacks, especially after he'd kicked Four across the room.. I needed Four to be in a state where he could have finish "The New You" off. This is also one of the primary reasons for shoeing you all off the space station.. you weren't really in a position to survive a prolonged combat against Dwarfstar guards, especially as somebody needed to support Two to get her out. Then there was Three, just following along like a lemon and needing encouragement to do even that.

The New You

We pickup with Two, Four, Five, Seven, Nyx, and Lisa in the conference room. [GM Note: Devon is still recuperating in med bay.] They are discussing the fact that Three and Six are long overdue, and therefore have probably been captured, and thus the whole place will be in lockdown, and with all of Rooks security on alert there is no way they can get in through the "front door". They need another way in and according to their initial scans there is no way into the station from orbit.

However, Lisa has been analysing the scans in more detail, and she thinks she has identified an area that may have been a hanger bay, at least during the station construction. Whilst it has now been sealed off from the outside, it should just be large enough to accomodate the Marauder. Given the work herself and Five have been doing, it should be possible to interface the Blink drive to the Marauders flight system and engines, enabling the Marauder to "blink" into the hanger.

Next up is the question who goes. Two pretty much has to go. She's very much on the clock, and time is tickign away. She needs the new nanites, and she does know where they are (at least where they should be). Then somebody needs to go locate and rescue Six and Three. Four is the obvious choice, with backup from Nyx (whom everyone still keeps forgetting about) and Seven.

With a plan in place its down to Five and Lisa to modify the Marauder, which takes a couple of hours. With the Marauder ready everyone kits up. Lisa loads the cooridnates into the Marauder's Nav System, enabling Two to initiate the "blink".

The Marauder blinks into the hanger. It just fits. They disembark. Two heads for the Research lab on the top floor. Four, Nyx, and Seven begin searching for Three and Six.

Two reaches the Research Lab. Its empty. She crosses to the Lab Safe where the Nanites are supposed to be. The case is not there. As she turns around, Rook and half a dozen guards enter.
Rook: "They're not there any more."
Two: "Where are they?"
Rook: "It doesn't matter. You know I can't give them to you!"
Two: "Give me the nanites and then I'm out of here."
Rook: "That's not going to be possible. You know that you represent a professional failure for me, Rebecca, and If I have you just running around that makes me look really bad. And I just hate looking bad."
Two: "Give me the nanites!"
Rook: "No! Now I could have used the dampening field I used to negate your nanites the last time we met. I could have used that again but I thought, what a great opportunity to demonstrate my new prototype."
Rook (with a wicked grin) "Would you like to meet the new you?"

A concealed door opens adjacent to where Rook entered, and "The New You" enters the room.
Rook: "Faster, stronger, and possessed of an advanced version of the nanites."
"And best of all, he is completely loyal."
Two fires at him.. he appears to have some form of shielding. The-New-You attacks.
Two tries to reason with him but he completely ignores her whilst punching, kicking, and throwing her about the room. He is significantly better than she is. Every time she tries to get away he just catch her and throws her back into the room. Rook and his guards have left by this point. It seems "The-New-You"'s only objective is to dispatch Two and there's nothing that she can do about it.

Elsewhere, after dispatching a few of Dwarfstar's security personnel and interogating a couple more Four has the location of where they are holding Three and Six, and has made his way there accompanied by Nyx and Seven. When Four opens the door Six is very much relieved to see them, but Three doesn't really react, He just sits on the bench where he was. Seven hands Six his Stunner, meaning that at least Six has a wepon now. They leave heading for the Research Lab on the top floor, although they pretty much have to drag Three along with them.

In the lab things are not looking good for Two, she's starting to struggle as the beating she's taking progressively weakens her nanites. The-New-You is temporarily distracted by the entry of Nyx and  Four, allowing Two to gain a small respite, although she can barely stand now. The-New-You kicks Two again stunning her and completely knocking her feet from under her. Four manages to get in a couple of blows before The-New-You kicks him solidly across the room. He initially ignores shots from Six, Seven, and Nyx, their stunners appearing to have no effect on him [GM note: Range was a factor in this....] and renders Two unconscious. Nyx and Seven switch weapons, and Six makes a grab for Two's pistols, managing to avoid attacks form THe-New-You. It now becomes a war of attrition, The-New-You appearing to soak a lot of the damage inflicted. Six manages to score a couple of Head shots which significantly slow him down, before Four manages to find and opeing and run him though with his swords.

Seven has already realised that this is a reseach lab and that The-New-You's blood must containt the new nanites, thus if he draws a sample and injects it into Two it should do what is necessary to restore her nanites. He manages to locate and injector and an empty vial, and draws blood from The-New-You. As he moves to inject Two he realises she's stopped breathing and has no pulse. He injects the nanites and begins CPR. It takes a couple of minutes before Two lets out a gasp. She is at least breathing now. Seven manages to locate another empty vial and draws a second sample.
With very strong GM hints they make their way back to the Marauder, and then back to the Razza. It's pretty obvious that Three is not himself.

With a little effort they take to medbay and get him onto the med scanner. Lisa starts a scan. The readouts go red almost immediately. The scanners are picking up some sort of unidentified foregin agent, and as far as the neural readout goes, Three is in REM sleep, yet apparently  awake at the same tume.
