Session Logs

35: Stuff to Steal, People to Kill.

Introduction

I know I made reference at the beginning of the session as to just how contrived the meeting between Ryo and Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone was but that wasn’t the only major contrivance in the series. The other was how could your Razza be anywhere close by to the point that anyone would know what was going on, on the station, and the Alt-Razza would have detected it. Even the contrivance I did use which was have your Razza hide in the station superstructure but running on emergency power only was exactly that, another major fudge.

There is one thing I do need to make clear. Three is not a clinical psychopath. He does not kill for pleasure, nor does he get any enjoyment out of disfiguring or dismembering enemy corpses. He kills out of necessity, self-defence, or because it comes as part of the job (people getting in the way).

The way things played out in the session is considerably different to what happened in the series. In the series Wexlar, Tash, and Corso don’t die, which now gives me a major issue I’m going to have to find away around. I possibly have an idea but I’m going to have to go rewatch series 3 for the exact impact to see if the workaround is viable.
I managed to get through the first 4 episodes of season 3 on Wednesday, but tonight (Thursday) I need to get the honey I've had in the warming cabinet since Sunday jarred, assuming it hasn't set since I took it out this morning.

When I originally wrote the introduction my last comment was going to be in relation to Trauffett and the logic behind the way things played out, but as is often the case when I think about things something else occurs to me so there are now two further comments, the first of which relates to Trauffett and why the crew are still on the Razza..

As she said she was enacting a pre-emptive double cross. Her reason is that she didn’t believe that you, as in Portia, had any intent on making good on the deal, thus she is using the crew both as a bargaining chip and as human shields; it’s also why Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone are also still on board. She was under the miscomprehension that had it not been Portia coming back on the Alt-Razza but the other crew, that they wouldn’t have fired on the Razza. Its something you missed by the way things went down on the Alt-Razza, or more specifically because Portia(Two) stunned Tash without talking to her first (it would have ended in a fight anyway), she missed getting certain information in relation to the state of affairs as had been building, although a certain amount can be inferred by what Boone overheard Corso say. The other thing to note is that I specifically had to re-arrange certain events because of the way the fight went down.

The last comment is therefore in relation to certain things that are coming up. If you make the decision to continue then one of the characters will become an NPC for the rest of the game, and at least one of the others will become and NPC and disappear for a while. I can't say anymore without giving the storyline away.

Oh, and a by-the-way.. the Session log title is the Episode title and relates to what Alt-Boone said when Ryo contacted them to arrange the meeting "No.. To busy. Stuff to Steal, People to Kill..."

Post posting Update

I've now reached the point in Series 3 where the events that transpired matter.. At the moment I have no way around the issue and can't think of one..

Stuff to Steal, People to Kill.

We  pick up in the very contrived meeting between Ryo and Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone in the section of the space station that still has life support. As Ryo stands in the corridor juntion Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone approach down the corridor from the airlock, unaware that Two and Three are hiding in the side corridors. As Alt-Portia asks "So Ryo what is it you've got for us" Two and Three step out of their hiding places and level guns at Alt-Portia's and Alt-Boone's head. Unlike in the TV series they are using stunners. When Alt-Boone asks "What is this?" followed by Alt-Portia asking "What do you want?" Two responds with "For starters, I'll take that coat.". Two and Three then fire rendering Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone unconscious. [GM Note: Matt did have a pshychotic episode at this point until he realised that, it wasn't something Boone would actually have done, it would also have been completely counterproductive, and story breaking. Boone is not stupid. In situations where they are completely lacking information and context, he pretty much deferes to Two/Portia at least in the series and does what she says, but generally it means he doesn't shoot first but waits until people reveal their intentions before shooting them.]

With Alt-Portia down and Two now dressed in her coat, Two and Three can head for the Marauder that Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone arrived in and then to the Alt-Razza. Docking with the Alt_Razza they head for the rear Engineering bay (Lower Main deck - centre) where the Blink Drive is installed. As Two accesses the Engineering console, in order to enter the command sequence to disconnect the drive, the drive activates and the Alt-Razza jumps away.

[GM Note. I did get this next bit slightly wrong so I'm altering it... it doesn't make any difference to what happens..] Two and Three head for the bridge to find out what is going on. As they enter the Bridge they find Wexlar in the pilots seat, Corso to their left at Life Support/Ship Security, and Tash to their right at Navigation.
Wexlar asks "How did ig go with Asheida"
Two repsonds with "we hadn't finished our business yet. What's going on?"
Wexlar replies "Well we've got business elsewhere too."
Corso adds "Nieham's orders."
Two says "What orders? I hadn't finished"
Corso say "Well Ferrous takes priority. We're to clear out some mis-understanding on a mining colony."

Wexlar then gets up out of the pilots seat, and as he reaches Two says "You coming?". He continues past her in the direction of the Marauder docking bay. Two follows whilst Boone heads off to take a look around the lower decks.

[GM note: Things now jump around a lot as I cut from one scene to another...A lot of these overlap in time....]

Back at the destroyed space Station, Ryo with the aid of Bradic move Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone to the their Marauder and thence back to the Razza which is now back in operational mode. Ryo secures Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone in the Med Bay isolation chamber [GM Note : As I said Lisa had previouly, during the Far Horizon incident, increase the capabilities of the force field to account for Two's nanites. Additional if you'd put them in stasis you would not have been able to talk to them, thus not get certain information, and in particular certain information Ryo wanted.]
As they're sucured Alt-Portia says "Duplicates of us. Duplicate of the Razza. May I make an educated guess as to what's going on?"
Ryo says "No you may not."
He then gets a Comm call from Lisa "We've been contacted by Commander Traufett. She wants to know how it went."
He leaves and returns to the bridge.

On the bridge he takes the call from Trauffett
He is initially economical with the truth until pushed by Trauffett when he has to admit they're run into complications
Traufett "Complications?"
R-Ryo "The ship jumped. They're gone."
Traufett "Then your friends were unsuccessful"
R-Ryo "That remains to be seen. They're still onboard."
Traufett "What about Lin and Boone?"
R-Ryo "We have them"
Traufett "Far from ideal. Okay Emperor, we're coming to you."

[GM Note: At this point you have a few hours to salvage materials from the space station as determined by the rolls you made. See House Keeping.]

Elsewhere, the Alt-Marauder with Wexlar and Two on-board heads down to the Mining Colony. Two tells Wexlar to "Let her do the talking". Wexlar responds with "Don't I always?"
The Mining colony is very similar to the one that the Razza crew encountered previously.
As they walk into the main hall area they are confronted by the Miners
Mine Leader-1 "You with Ferrous Corp"
Two "We're their representatives, we're here to speak on their behalf."
Mine Leader-2 "well there aint nothing to talk about. We're declaring independance."
Two "You know Ferrous Corp isn't going to let that happen."
Mine Leader-1 "Well maybe we need to show them we're serious. Willing to kill for our freedom. Starting with you two."
Wexlar looks at Two and then looks around.
Two "Push comes to shove most people would be willing to kill for their freedom, willing to die, that's another matter. And trust me there'll be plenty of time for both later. Right now we just want to talk."
Mine Leader-1 nods to Female Mine Leader
Female Mine Leader "After you." She gestures to the interior where they head to a meeting room.

Back on board the Alt-Razza Three is snooping about, trying to determine what and who the crew compliment is by investigating what cabins are in use. As he passes on particular cabin, Tash steps out from behind him and grabs hold of him, first kissing him to shut him up then dragging him back towards the cabin, whilst loosening his gun belt and then the belt for his trousers. She then throws him onto the bed before climbing on top of him. Three is somewhat surprised by this turn of events. |
Tash: "We've got about 20 minutes before they get back.."
Three isn't really with the program and makes excuses. Tash climbs off him. He then asks if they can pick it up later. She leans in as if to kiss him, then head butts him on the bridge of the nose making him sees stars and collapse backwards onto the bed.
Tash "Can't believe you still fall for that." As she leaves she says "later looser".

Cut back to the Razza (the real one as far as you're concearned). Ryo decides to go talk to Alt-Portia.
Alt-Portia "You tested the device without making the proper adjustments. You didn't account for temporal displacement. That's why you and the rest of your crew are here. Instead of going from Point A to Point B in your reality, you punched a hole through space-time and ended up here where our Ashieda reclaimed his throne."
Alt-Boone "Something you obviously haven't done. Not yet. Now I don't know how you're going to do that without the Blink Drive."
Ryo "Well how did he do it?"
Alt-Boone "With a little help from his friends."
Ryo "Go on."
Alt-Portia & Alt-Boone say nothing.
Ryo "I can vent the atmosphere in there and stand here and watch you die."
Alt-Boone "I'm haking"
Ryo "Try me."
Alt-Portia "After EOS-7 the Corporations backing Pyr pulled out. They had bigger things to worry about. So we took advantage and help Zairon destroy their fleet."
Alt-Boone "And they welcomed you back with open arms."
Ryo "Did I have allies in the palace?"
Alt-Portia "You made a deal with a couple of old friends, members of the Royal Court, who you knew you could still trust."
Alt-Boone "Your step brother Hiro was one of them. That came back to bite you in the arse."
Ryo "how?"
Alt-Portia "He started lobbying for democratic rights..... But you put an end to that."
she pauses and watches him before continuing "The real Ryo we know can make the hard decisions, and exploit the right opportunities. What's holding you back?"
Ryo leaves.

Back on the mining planet Two and Wexlar in conversation with the miners.
Two "I know what your thinking. Ferrous Corp is too busy fighting a war to worry about some insignificant mining community. But you're wrong. They're going to come down on you hard, because if they don't it'll send a message to every other insignificant mining community that Ferrous is weak and can't keep its own house in order.
Female Mine Leader "We won't be intimidated."
Wexlar is getting restless. Suddenly he stands up and clubs her with the pistol, then shoots the other 2 Mine leaders.
Two "What the hell?"
Wexlar "I said you could do the talking. I didn't say anything about the shooting." (hauling the female miner to her feet) "Time to move"
[GM note. There was something of a discussion at this point as Two wanted to just shoot Wexlar, justified in her mind but from a tactical point of view a really bad idea. They're in the middle of the Colony, and Wexlar has just shot 2 of the mine leader dead, something that isn't going to go down at all well. At least with Wexlar using the Female mine leader as a human shield they're likely to be able to get back to the Marauder without being shot.]
Having reached the Marauder Two tells Wexlar to let her go.
Wexlar "What alive"
Two "Yes alive"
As Wexlar shoves her out the rear of the Marauder Two shoots him [GM note it wasn't clear in the session whether she used the stunner or her pistol although it becomes a moot point shortly after.]

[GM note: what happens next is somewhat different to how it played out in the TV series because Wexlar is down at this point. The end result is the same]

As Two brings the Marauder online to return the the Razza she gets and incoming com call.
Corso "Marauder, this is the Razza, how'd it go?"
Two "I'm returning to the Razza"
Corso "Okay, so spank them then"
Two "What?"
Corso cuts the com at this point.
As she completes her preflight check the Marauders systems pick up a missile lauch directed at her location. The signature suggests its a Nuclear device. Two uses the maximum available acceleration of the Marauder in an attempt to get out of the blast radius.

Back on the Alt-Razza Three recovers from his minor concussion and pulls himself together, putting his gun belt on. As he steps into the corridor, the Android is waiting for him.
Android "As this ships service Android its my duty to inform the crew of any impending danger."
[GM note: Matt doesn't quite understand with out a GM prompt]
Three "Yeah?"
Andorid "In this case its the nuclear missle we just launched which is heading towards the planet surface where the Marauder is currently located."
[GM note he did sort of get the response correct...]
Three "What? Can you override its nav systems"
Android "Unfortunately I can't. But you may be able to from the bridge"
Three races for the bridge...

As he enters the bridge, Corso who has been watching the progress of the missile says "Boom. good-bye Portia"
Unlike in the TV series, Three just shoots him, although he does only use his stunners.

He debates what to do next. After a few minutes he decides to close the bridge doors. As he's about to close them Tash appears and kicks him across the bridge. He lands hard loosing the grip on his stunner. As he attempts to retrieve it, Tash lands on top of him and knocks him out.

Two now appears on the bridge in time to see Tash knock Three out. Without waiting she shoots Tash with her stunner. Tash fails to dodge and falls unconscious.
Two takes out her pistol and moves to shoot Tash in the head. Suddenly her vision swims, her hand shakes, and she falls to her knees.  She's having difficulty focusing, balencing, and staying conscious.

Three comes around to find Tash advancing on the recumbant Two with Corso's knife. He flings himself at her but she dodges his clumsy attack with ease. As she turns towards Two the Android appears and shoots her with a stunner.
Android "As this ships service Android it's my duty to protect the crew from harm, and on occasion each other."

Three picks himself up, picks up Corso's knife and stabs Tash. Two appears to be recovering from her episode.

Back on the real Razza events are interupted by the arrival of the Mekei cruiser.
Ryo, Varrick, and Bradic go to the airlock to meet her shuttle whilst Lisa and Emily remain on the bridge.
Trauffett is accompanied by 2 Mekei troopers in full armour.
Trauffett (to Ryo) "Any word from your people?"
Ryo "No. Not yet"

Trauffett puts her hand to her temple, then activates the device in her hand. There is a bright flash and Ryo, Varrick, and Bradic fall unconscious. A Mekei strike team enter behind her.
Trauffett and her 2 guards make their way to the bridge. Just before they enter Lisa says to Five "Something is wrong"
Trauffett walks onto the bridge and tells the Android to shutdown.
Lisa says "No!"
Trauffett pulls a pistol from one of the guards holsters and points it at Emily's head.
Trauffett ""Do I have to shoot her?"
Lisa "No." She shuts down.

Trauffett and the Mekei guards round up the crew and place them under restraints in the conference room. Alt-Portia and Alt-Boone remain locked in the Containment Area in Med bay.
[GM Note: for some reason there was confusion as to where the crew of the Razza were at this point, despite the fact that I'd said they were in the conference room.]

The Alt-Razza now makes an appearance.
Two ""Razza this is Two what is your situation?"
Traufett "I'd best describe your crew's situation as dire."
Two "Traufett? What the hell is going on?"
Traufett "Oh please. This is just a pre-emptive double cross."

[GM notes: Matt, as in Three, thinks they should just take the Alt-Razza and leave. Hannah as in Two is unsure. In terms of the game, the 'reformed Portia, ie Two' wouldn't abandon the crew, thus this isn't an option she'd contemplate.  There is a sort of dialog that takes place in the Tv Series which didn't happen so I skipped to the end.]

Traufett (in exasperation) "The lives of your people for the drive. What's it going to be?"

[GM Note: This is where we ended the session. It took a little prompting, with reference to the previous log, but James worked out that I was refering to the piece about both Androids being capable of neurally linked to either version of the Razza although they have to be "Aboard or Docked" (see Session Log 34) to do so. Since Trauffett is demanding the Blink drive to release the crew she won't question the Alt-Razza sending over the Razza. If the Android is aboard, note only the Android is required, then as soon as the Marauder docks she can take control of the Razza, and turn the tables on Trauffett..more on Tuesday...]

House Keeping - Dates and Fuel

So Housekeeping this week is not about fuel and water, I'll leave that till the next log. Housekeeping this week is about what to managed to salvage from the station. For pretty much all the items on my list of possibles you had a 20% (D10, roll 1or 2) chance of getting the item. Matt only managed to get one of them and probably the least useful one, the 24,000l Fuel Transfer pod, as per the one you used to move fuel from the Far Horizon, and yes it does have 24,000l of fuel in it, or at least you could have filled it to 24,000l.

You did manage to recover cr793,488 worth of materials and spare parts which you can use to offset the cost of any repairs or restock of the auto-repair system you may need. You would still need to pay any 'labour' cost.
In addition to this you did get 11 ISO containers worth of cargo. These are 40ft containers with a capacity of 68m3 when full. I haven't yet made any decision as to what these are. What I might do is to put together some sort of table and have you roll against it 11 times to see what you get. There will probably be a random element as to how full they are.

You also managed to get 7m3 of scrap metal.
