Session Logs

26:Desperately Seeking Corso

Introduction

This week was very much a case of the characters knowing stuff , even if the players had completely forgotten about it completely. That is not to say that I remembered everything from last week, which meant that the catchup at the start of the session was everyone reminding me of where we’d got to.

It should also be noted that any NPCs that happen to be lurking about have a role to play and thus if I give you information about them it can be assumed there is a specific reason for doing so. I should also note that because of the way you went about things you know far more about Devon’s and Nyx’s background than the characters did at this point in the series.

As I said at the end we’ve now reached the ‘revenge’ scenario by a round-about method imposed by One dying in the Ashieda scenario, as opposed to being assassinated in the same time frame as your escape from Hyperion-8.

There is also one more significant difference, aside from the presence of Seven (Bradic), which is that Varrik is actually up and about at this point and at least from my perspective you seem to have mostly forgiven him for his actions in turning you all in.

I would add a note specifically for Six at this juncture. In the series Six does not go on the Corso mission, partly because physically he couldn’t, but more so because he doesn’t agree from a moral standpoint with the revenge killing of Corso. If I quote from the series a conversation he had with Five on the subject “It’s one thing to kill a man in self defence, but it’s entirely different to hunt him down and kill him in an act of revenge”, to which Five responds “From the moment we came out of stasis we’ve been hunted by Corporations, people we had no idea about from our past, and the GA. It’s time we stopped running and started fighting back.” Six doesn’t have an actual answer to this.

From a plot perspective there are reasons why Varrik and Bradic shouldn't go on this mission, whilst Nyx should.

Desperately Seeking Corso

The session started with me establishing exactly how far we'd got at the end of the previos session, primarily because I'd forgotten exactly what point we'd reached. Thankfully the players hadn't. We had reached the point where Varrik had said that inorder to get into the GA systems to get the information they wanted on Devon and Nyx, ie their records - which they had forgotten about, they needed to locate an out of the way space station with a small GA office, which was likely to be understaffed, and therefore the officer was very possibly likely to be over worked and possibly bored (long duty shifts where nothing happens). We had also covered the ground that none of the Razza crew, Varrik included would likely be able to access the station because alerts would have been issued post their escape from Hyperion-8 and therefore there was a high likely hood of them being recognised and alerts being raised, as had happened previously when Bradic(Seven) had sought medical attention. At this point Lisa had pointed out that as an Android she does not count as a person and therefore no charges had been filed against her, thus the GA wouldn't be looking for her. She had also revealed that she was in possession of an illegal software upgrade that would enable her to act and behave as a human therefore passing as human. She had analysed the code and had found it compatible with no hidden extras and had been debating as to whether to install it or not. This would be an ideal opportunity for her to do so. When Emily asks if she would be able to uninstall or switch off the upgrade, Lisa confirms that should she choose to do so she could indeed do so.

There was then the need to run through the 'alternate Corso' scenarion that principly Varrik knew about, although Emily knew part of it as it related to one of the two files she decrypted for Varrik whilst she was confined to her room on Hyperion-8. This was Moss's (One's) personal data log and notes relating to his wife's killing and the reason he'd come aboard the Razza in the first place, to kill Marcus Boone who was the lone implicated suspect in the killing. However, Moss had come to the conclusion, that no matter what else Boone was, he was not an assassin, and all the evidence pointed to his wife having been assissinated. The only evidence against Boone was the testimony of one of the building's security guards who' supposedly been on duty at the time and a somewhat blurred video still of Boone on a staircase.

After Shaddick had arrived, Varrik had contacted the local GA station on the world where Moss's company and therefore his appartment was, and asked them to pickup the Security Guard so that he could interview him. The following morning, a few hours before the "Great Escape", when Anders had appeared and told Varrik to remove any reference to Eridan-3 from his report as the crew of the Razza weren't getting off this rock, as the hit was in and the Govenor had been paid off, he also told Varrik that the rookie GA cop sent to being the security guard in and the security guard had been found dead.

With all the plot elements straightened out we move to the completion of the 33ly FTL jump from Opleesh-8, the space station where you stopped to get the Razza repaired and restocked, to Balada-9. The Razza docks under yet another false registration and Id, and Lisa, now in the guise of Kiva Ehrens, a resident of the Telaren Sector (note it would have required Emily to forge her an Id) goes aboard the station. She assures everyone that she has a plan.

People move to the bridge of the Razza to await the outcome of the mission, Emily monitoring for the signal from the relay transmitter that Kiva needs to attach to the GA computer network. Time ticks by.

After about 90 minutes Emily picks up the signal and now has inside access to the GA system. She locates the relavent entry relating to the Hyperion-8 breakout which lists the names of all those wanted in connection with the escape. Aside from Arax Nero, Devon Telthard, and Nyx Harper, the report lists Alekseyev Zakharovivh, Emily Kolburn, and Karl Varrik.

Emily retrieves the records for Devon Telthard and Nyx Harper:-
Devon Telthard : Surgeon (Struck-off) : Criminal Negligence Manslaughter : Killed a 12year old colonist girl on the operating table whilst under the influence of a banned narcotic (Protase-130)
Nyx Harper : Theft, Aggrevated Assault-Actual Bodily Harm (43 counts). Took down 9 GA guards whilst being arrested for theft, and then 34 more whilst trying to escape custody.

Emily knows about Protase-130, streetname Shadow. The 'In' goodtime party drug, a supposedly non-addictive synthetic halucinigen.

She moves to check the file referenced by Varrik. The report on the death of the security guard and the GA operative suggests it was a professional hit - both died from a single shot to the head at range. There is a low resolution distant image of a potential suspect wanted in connection to the case. The case is marked as "Suspended-Closed-No further Action". When she runs the image through image enhancement software the image appears to resemble Moss/Corso.

Kiva/Lisa returns to the Razza about 45 minutes later. When questioned as to how it went she says "Okay. The Magistates hearing is set for 14 days time. Its a shame I won't be attending."[GM Note: This is very much not what an Android would say, but then she's not behaving at all like an Android currently.]

As the Razza departs, [GM note: given your often indecisiveness Lisa has taken to jumping to the far side of the star in the system you're currently in whilst you work out what you want to do..], discussion moves to what next. From a player perspective there are a couple of things, some sort of 'job', something that their past selves may have indulged in, or possibly going after Corso except they have no idea of where he is.

Cue character perspective.. So first on the cards is a revamp of the history from an early session where Corso imprisons Three, and then boards the Razza taking 2 crates of weapons from the hold, plus the crate with the 2 remaining Armscorp TRC12 Blast Rifles. Next is something that Wexlar let slip during the Traugott Research lab job. He knew Corso, and what's more he knew that one of his drinking buddies was a guy named Danny Bones, who would most likely could be found somewhere in the Oradan Sector. All of which Emily had locked away in her memory. This is where one of the NPCs come in, except that despite having retrieved his GA record at the start of the session, they couldn't correlate somebody with a possible drug habit, with somebody who might know people that might know people who could possible locate Danny Bones.

After a lot of prompting the penny drops and they jump to the Oradan Sector in search of Danny Bones. Note whilst a number of you have the knowledge to be able to locate 'underworld' elements (and yes this does include Varrik/Griffen Jones) in this instance your primary initial point of contact is via Devon's contacts.

It takes several jumps to get a handle on Bones at which point Kiva is sent in to retrieve him (she is completely unknown to the underworld hence wouldn't raise suspicion or lead to potential complications if the "crew of the Razza" went in... [GM note.. this is probably where the angle in the TV series comes from that Corso thinks somebody has put a hit on him.]

Unlike in the TV series where it's just Kiva, Portia, and Nyx who interogate Bones, pretty much everyone except Emily is present. Bones initially denies knowing  Corso until its pointed out that Wexlar said that the two of them were drinking buddies. When he enquires as to where Wexlar is, having not seen him about recently, he's informed that Wexlar is floating somewhere outside the Aquilla Nebula.

Various threats are made but Bones just shrigs them off "I know you're going to kill me. But Jace will kill me, and then he'll kill my family, and .. and then he'll kill my neighbours and their dog... and.."

Portia, as per the TV Series says, "We're not going to kill you. Tell us where Corso is and he won't be coming back."

Bones acquiesces. Corso's hideout is on Kroinnoth-3. It's an abandoned mining installation located in the Northern Hemisphere.

They stun Bones unconscious once more and Kiva deposits him back on the station, before the Razza departs for Kroinnoth-3.

To save on time for the next session, the Planetary Scans relating to Corso's hideout are below..
