23: I’ve seen the Other Side of You

Introduction

So despite having to re-arrange certain parts of the scenario in comparison to the way things happen in the TV series things went pretty well this week. If you hadn’t guessed it already this is another “Five Saves the Day” scenario. The switch of attitude was pretty much as required, although Two is technically much meaner, and yes I will direct things as required. Two is much more calculating than Three at this point thus less psychotic, but as much of a bad ass and definately not to be crossed. Note don’t count on Four being at all nice either, he is as likely to shoot you as look at you.
And yes the title of the log is as per episode 3 of Season 2.

I’ve seen the Other Side of You

We pickup convening the meeting to debrief Six. Seven has to attend via a remote terminal in Med Bay as without painkillers he pretty much can’t go anywhere.

Six basically explains that it was his job to bring the crew of the Razza in, and that the GA relied on the fallout of the Hyadum-12 bombing to make him an ideal candidate for the crew of the Razza to recruit him [GM Note: The GA did not place him on board the Razza, that would have been impossible. The only way that anybody got onboard the Razza, and this includes One and Seven, was that they were recruited through a ‘fixer’ by the then crew for a job.] He also explains that he had always tried to do the right thing and that the Hyadum-12 bombing and the immediate aftermath caused him to suffer a nervous breakdown and he was off work for a year but that he had no choice but to go back to work. He thought that by bringing the crew of the Razza in he was doing the right thing.

Three asks him about his Transfer Transit excursion. Six explains that he was trying to resolve some outstanding issues in relation to the Hyadum-12 bombing, vis the person who set him up, but that things didn't quite work out in the manner he'd hoped.

Two does point out that Six did help them all escape and did get Lisa and Five out. Three doesn't still quite buy the final events where Six was shot by Anders. As the discussions continue Five decides to go and retrieve her 'Toolbox' from where Six had hidden it for her.

She returns to the conference room about 40 minutes later, not only with her Toolbox but also the head of the Security Android from the Traugott Research Station. Opening her 'Toolbox' she takes out its contents then removes the false floor and takes out what could be some sort of small device/tablet from inside. The tablet is about the same size as a small mobile phone 190.5mm x107.95mm x9.4 mm (57.5 x4.25 x0.36 in)(l x w x h). The material its made from is unknown possibly some form of ceramic metallic alloy. Depending on how it's viewed it will either absorb light or reflect light and it's colouring changes as a consequence. It some orientations to a light source it appears that it may have a series of contacts or connector points. In many ways the device resembles some form of KeyCard. Exactly what it is Five doesn't know, possible some form of Dimensional Key. Three? suggests that when Lisa wakes up they get her to analyse it. Five says she's already done so, hence the speculation as to what it is. The technology that made it is highly advanced and not known, even Lisa was only able to theorise about the device and it's function, possibly being part of something else. Five doesn't say where she got it but speculates that that is why the Razza is being chased. She doesn't want to hold it any longer and suggests that it needs to go in the vault.

At this point Three complains he's starting to suffer with a really bad headache. He decides to head to the  MedBay to get something for it. A few minutes after he departs Four also starts to complain of a really bad headache. He also heads for MedBay. Five decides that she needs to put the Keycard in the vault herself and heads down to the lower cargo bay.

Upon reaching Medbay he rumages in the med cabinet to find a pot of headache pills and takes a handfull. Seven tells him to be careful. A couple of minutes pass and Four enters. There is a brief exchange and Three tosses him the pot of headache tablets. Four takes a couple, then both he and Three collapse unconscious. Seven who's still online to the conference room relays what's happened. As Six decides to head for the Med Bay to help, Two collapses unconsious.

Reaching medbay Seven suggests they need the doctor's help. Six goes to get him. Between the two of them they get Three and Four onto the other beds, before rotating them through the Med Scanner [GM note: As per the deck plans only the bed in the center of the room has a full disgnostic med scanner.] To all intents and purposes their scans look entirely normal, other than significantly elevated activity in their Hippocampus. Five returns to the conference room having put the Keycard in the vault to find Two unconscious on the floor.

[GM Note: As per my comment in the session, neither Six nor Five would have subjected Two to a med scan by a third party as they are both well aware of what that would reveal. I'm surprised nobody suggested moving her to her room...]

With nothing else to do Six and Five retire to their respective rooms.

Time passes ...[GM Note approx 40 mins. You will not I am now using Two's, Three's and Four's real names from this point forward and they are notionally under GM control until I say otherwise..]

Boone recovers consciousness in MedBay and wonders first where he is and then how on earth did he get here. He then notices the guy in the red prison jump suit and then the wounded guy in one of the other beds with the medical drip. Reaching for his pistols he finds he has a pair of stunners instead. He draws and then stuns both of the other room occupants, noting the presence of Ryo also unconscious on one of the other beds. Putting the guy in the red prison jump suit into the isolation bay, he cautiosly wakes Ryo. Ryo also initially has no idea of where he is. He also has no idea how he got here. The last thing both of them remember is retiring for the night slightly worse for wear.

Three tries to raise the Android but there is no response. When he tries Portia she grogily responds, also having no idea how she got onto the floor of the conference room. Three tells her that he can't raise the Android and that there appear to be intruders onbaord. He's stunned the two that were in Medbay, put one in the isolation chamber, but the otherone appears to be recovering from some kind of operation and is attached to a drip, so isn't likely to be any issue. Portia tells him and Ryo to search the ship to see if there are any more intruders. She'll see if the Android is in her cradle and why she's not responding.[GM Note. Portia knows that if the Android is on a 'sleep' break, thus recharging then she wouldn't likely respond.]

Boone and Ryo search the Lower Main deck finding Arax and Nyx, Boone just stunning them as soon as he sees them. Between them they move Arax and Nyx to the isolation bay in the Med Bay.

Portia's other reation, unlike in the TV series, is to ask the ships AI what the date and time is. She is somewhat surprised to find its more than 14 months later than what she remembers. She moves to check on the Andorid's cradle which is in the starboard  engineering bay on the Bridge Deck. She notes that the door has at some point been cut through, and is now in the process of self-repair, although it does appear to now be capable of being locked, although the lock responds to her and the door opens. The Android is indeed in her cradle, and appears to be offline. She checks the diagnostic console, noting that she appears to have shut herself down for repairs for some reason and that she will be offline for approximately another 28 hours or so. Portia is also aware that if the Android shut herself down for repairs then something must be seriosuly wrong and that interputing the repair cycle may be dangerous, and may make the situation worse.

She tells Boone and Ryo that the Android is offline and that she's going to the bridge. Boone and Ryo state that they're continuing to search the ship. Then Boone remembers something, the Vault and Sarah. He says he's going to check the vault.

Five realising that something is seriously amiss decides to vacate her room and heads for the nearest vent entry point. Six catches a glimpse of her as he also heads for somewhere more secure than being trapped in his room. The only real place to place cat and mouse with the searchers is the cargo decks..

Boone finds he can't get int the vault, somebody has changed the code. In conjunction with Ryo they continue to search the ship finding 2 more occupied rooms that hadn't been previously. One appears to be full of tech gadgetry Boone doesn't have a clue about, and possibly inhabited by a girl. Six successfully evades the pair on the cargo decks [GM Note: in the TV series its Nyx but then they played fast and loose with the deck plans of the ship, where as I have a 'logical' set of plans, and there was no way that Arax and Nyx could evade the search. There are other reasons why it wasn't Six in the series but things didn't happen as they did in the series, so it's Six who is now my loose canon.].

Eventually Portia, Ryo, and Boone return to the Med Bay to extract some information as to what is has been going on from the intruders. Give that the doctor, whose name is Devon Taltherd,  was stunned first  and not then clubbed unconscious by Boone,  he has recoved consciousness  by the time they get to Med Bay. Boone straps him down to the scanner bed [GM Note. its the one in the middle of the room and most suitable to restrain somebody on.]

Devon really doesn't know much. They all escaped from Hyperion-8, the GA's maximum security prison, and he sort of tagged along in the escape because of Seven. Despite Boone torturing him he insists that they all escaped from Hyperion-8 after the famous crew of the Razza were brought in by the GA. He also knows that Ryo was being extradited to Xiron with expidited orders from the Govenor.

Boone decides to find out what the guy in the bed knows. He basically recounts a story as to how they all woke from stasis after something went wrong with the ship, some sort of asteroid storm, and none of them had any memory of who they were so they took their names based on the order they woke, so Portia was Two, Boone was Three, and Ryo was Four. They then spent several months doing various jobs, including helping the miners on Alaris 6 agaist Ferous Corp with the eventual aid of the Mikei Corporation and how they ended up doing a job for Mikei.  Neither Boone nor Portia believe him but Portia tells Boone not to do anything else whilst she goes to the bridge to check the Navigation logs. The logs pretty much confirm a lot of what Seven has said including having a recording of the destruction of Eridan-3. Portia returns to MedBay and confirms to Boone and Ryo that most of what he's said is true.

Boone then asks about the vault, or more specifically the code to the vault. Seven says he doesn't know it. Portia changed it several times and only she knew what the code was. Portia pushes the point about if he really knows them then tell her something that's not in their records. Seven mentions Sarah and the Vault, Boone gets somewhat angry and pushes the point. Seven says that Boone isn't going to like what he's going to say. They found her cryo unit in the vault, and not knowing who she was or anything about her revived her. They then found out she was seriously ill. They were then attacked and with no other choice put her back in her cryo unit, but soemthing went wrong, and the cryo unit lost power and Sarah died. Boone is completely devastated by this turn of events and collapses to the floor, an emotinal wreck.

[GM Note: As I noted in the session Portia was aware of Sarah and why she was in the Cryo unit. It would be very unlike that any such detail would be in their GA records as it doesn't relate to any form of criminal activity.]

I think this is pretty much as we left it, with Boone returning to his quarters, and Portia and Ryo in Medical. There was one other element I'm not sure if anybody picked up on. I also can't remember exactly at which point Portia said anything, possibly when she returned from the Bridge having checked the Navigation logs. She asked Boone and Ryo if they could neurally link to the ship. Neither knew what she was on about. The reason she asked was that she believes she can, although she can't currently control it......
