22: The Great Escape?
|
Introduction
I’m not sure I need an Introduction as such for this week. You escaped from prison, a necessary step to continuing the story. There is of course the minor complication at the end where things didn’t quite happen as in the series, but I don’t think it poses any insurmountable issues. I did miss a few minor things which I’ve noted in the text.
The Great Escape?
We pickup with Two recovering from the effects of the Sonic Disabler to find herself being carried, fireman’s lift stylie, to her cell. She play's dead until the Guard enters her cell and turns as if to drop her on her bed. Suddenly adjusting her position she slides backwards off his shoulder grabbing him by the shoulders and curling up as she does so, As she falls backwards and lands she uses her momentum to throw the guard into the rear wall of her cell. Rolling to her feet she punches the guard to ensure that he's unconscious. As she's searching him for his security key she notices his name badge, Kaizon. Removing his stunner from its holster, the security card from his pocket, and his ear pieces, she kicks him in the bollocks for good measure.
Based on the information in Three's skectch map she leaves her cell and makes her way into the Main Complex and to the Security Office. Entering the Security Office, she stuns the somewhat overweight female Guard on duty as she attempts to get out of her chair. She examines the security console, noting that the display indicates that the Sonic Disabler is still active, and that there are several 'bands' on the display. It would appear that the Guard's earpieces are set to block certain frequencies and that the 'band' of frequencies the ear pieces block can be adjusted. She modifies the band such that their ear pieces no longer block the Sonic Disabler. [GM Note: as hinted at in Game the reason Two recovers is not because the Sonic Disabler is off, but that her nanites have adapted to block the disabling frequecy of the Disabler.]
Elsewhere in the complex, Six heads for the Armoury. He grabs
a Stunner and a few stun grenades to augment his own personal weapon,
then heads in the direction of the room the Android is being held in.
If all has gone to plan then Five should be in the room with Shaddick.
He makes his way past to where the main power distribution board is for
this section. Shooting the locking mechanism out he activates one of
the stun grenades and places it inside the board, before closing the
door and heading away toward the shuttle bay.
It takes a couple of minutes for the Governor to realise the Guards are down. He contacts the security office but is met with a response from Two whom he doesn't recognise. He orders all the power to be cut, except for emergency power and all personal to get out and deal with the situation. As the power is cut both Guards and Prisoners, now no longer subject to the effects of the Disabler begin to regain concsiousness. As they do so and realise their situation fighting breaks out once more. Two makes her way to the main prisoner access in order to let Three, Nyx, and Arax out. Meanwhile Three and Arax fight their way through the assembled masses towards the doors.
With the Disabler down, other parties begin to recover consciousness, Four recovering before his captors and Seven before his rescuer. Four decides to make his way back the way he came, back towards the main complex. As he backtracks he encounters Seven strapped to the wheel chair and the "doctor" from the Medical Facility. Engaging in a brief conversation, the conversation is interupted by Misaki "Ryo you coward, running away again?" Four turns around and heads back towards Misaki.
Two reaches the main access doors to Block A, opening them so that Three and Arax can get through. Hitting close the three of them start to make tracks towards the shuttle bay. Nyx just makes it through the doors before they close and hurries to join them.
Despite the fact that Four disarmed the two Ashieda Guards with Misaki she orders them to attack Ryo. He makes short work of dispatching them. Faced with Misaki, who is also now unarmed, Four throws one of the Guard's swords towards her, handle first so that she can catch it. Seven and his rescuer reach the corridor entrance as Ryo and Misaki face off against one another.
Meanwhile, as the power goes down across the complex, Six's stun grenade detonates, taking all power out the the room Lisa is being held in, completely disabling her restraints. Five, who faced with Shaddick's ultimatum and a gun to her head and about to order Lisa to relase her files, rapidly changes tack. "Lisa, Help!, Kill them, Kill them all!"
Breaking the unpowered restraints, Lisa flys out of the chair
grabbing Shaddick by the throat and hoisting her into the air. As her
guards react, she is force to throw Shaddick into one of them to
disrupt his aim, and free herself to throw the other one across the
room. As Shaddick and the guard struggle to disentangle
themselves, Lisa grabs the assault rifle from the floor and shoots she
threw across the room as he gets to his feet. She then turns the gun on
the technicain and the guard before turning to Shaddick. She waits a
second or two then puts a bullet into Shaddicks head.
[GM note. Lisa wouldn't have know about the plan, so she would have
had to ask Five what next.. ]
Lisa: "What now Emily".
Five:"Shuttle bay, we need to get to the main shuttle bay."
Lisa "Okay. This way." [Yes this is another anomaly from the series..
Logically Lisa would not have been reactivated until she was restrained
in this room so how she knew where the Main Shuttle bay is I have no
idea...]
Passing the armoury, who's doors are open, Five stops and goes in. There are several assault rifles, a number of heavy pistols, and several stunners, still in their racks. She also notices Three Heavy energy rifle propped up in the corner. She calls to Lisa. Three's rifle is too heavy and unwieldy for her to use, but it shouldn't be an issue for Lisa. [GM note: as I noted in the session, I have no idea why a prison armoury would have Assault rifles in it but there you go. Bubba had 7 charges left at this point]. Suitably armed/loaded down with weapons the pair resume their journey towards the shuttle bay.
Seven and the doctor are too mesmerized by the fight that's unfolding in front of them to notice the two prison guards come round the corner towards them, until the sound of a heavy energy rifle fired in kinetic mode distrubs their concentration, enough to notice the two guards hit the side wall of the corridor with some force. This is shortly followed by the arrival of Lisa and Five.
Misaki and Ryo have exchange blows, Ryo forceing her back down the
corridor towards a T-Junction. He's momentarily distracted by an open
door to his left which allows Misaki to get past him, turning the
tables. He backs into the corridor wall, blocking Misaki's blows before
managing to force her backwards away from him. As she counter-attacks
Ryo dives sideways into the room as Lisa entering the corridor levels
Bubba and fires, throwing Misaki against the end wall of the corridor.
As Five, Seven, and his recuser reach him, Five says "Sorry no time.."
Six reaches the shuttle bay to find the Ashieda Shuttle unguarded.
He takes a few minutes to confirm he can fly it and starts takeoff
preporations, before returning to the airlock in preporation for the
arrival of the escapees. Having used a slightly different route to
Lisa, Five, Four, Seven, and the Doctor, Two, Three, Arax and Nyx
arrive at the shuttle ahead of the others. Three's reaction on seeing
Six to want to kill him but Two tells him to lay off, he's helping us,
he should have got Five and Lisa out. Their conversation is interupted
by the sound of Bubba firing and two more guards enter the corridor to
the shuttle bay airbourne and at velocity colliding with the corridor
wall and then hitting the floor. As Lisa turns the corner, Three goes
"Hey that's mine" and takes Bubba from her, before grabbing the
stunners from the guards.
As people board the shuttle, Lisa taking the pilots station, Anders comes around the corner. "Okay, thats it. You know I can't let you all go".
Six "I can't see you have much choice it's all over".
Anders fires and Six dives into the shuttle airlock, Ander's shot
winging him in the process.
Two tells Lisa to get us out of here as Three closes the airlock. Lisa undocks and then uses the Shuttles pulse cannons to blow out the hanger doors, launching the shuttle at maximum G, and backing sharply to avoid the prison perimeter defence batteries. Six gives her the co-ordinates of where the Razza is in orbit.
Reaching the Razza they are forced to dock using the Port Airlock,
the Marauder being docked in the forward shuttle bay, and the
Volkov-Russi shuttle being docked in the aft shuttle bay. Various party
members want to keep the Ashieda Shuttle but to do so they would have
to undock the Volkov-Russi shuttle and then dock the Ashieda shuttle.
Two asks Lisa if this can be done by remote control. Lisa says "In
theory yes, assuming I have all the access codes to each shuttle and
they are coupled to the Razza interface. There is a problem however as
I appear to be unable to link to the Razza."
Two asks "Why?"
Lisa "Currently I am unable to provide an answer."
Lisa, Two, and Five head for the bridge. Five wants to run diagnostics to see if there has been any tampering with the Razza's systems. Seven with the aid of the doctor heads for the Medical bay along with Six. Three heads initially to his room and thence to the vault, he wants to know if it still has anything in it. Four is sort of left to sort out accomodation for their guests. Arguments continue over keeping the Ashieda shuttle.
As the Razza's systems come online, they confirm that there are 4 cruisers in orbit around Hyperion-8, A GA cruiser, the Ashieda cruiser they knew about, a Mikei cruiser, and a Volkov-Russi cruiser. [GM Note: Now why might there be a Volkov-Russi Curiser present? It's not like I've not given you all the requiste pieces to put two and two together..]
Five is still paranoid about them getting out of here. As the arguments over the shuttles continue she forcibly undocks the Ashieda shuttle from the Razza from the bridge. Lisa, still unable to neurally link to the Razza is forced to make the FTL calculations to jump to the star manually, and thence to manually activate the jump.
There is then a debate as to where they go next. Arax says he know of somewhere, an abandonded asteroid that used to be a mine. All the facilities they would need to restock and resupply. After much discussion Two opts for a system in the middle of no-where. The problem is they are somewhat in the 'heart' of the Empire, and to get anywhere remote where they are off the beaten track is a 74ly jump.
Diagnostic and other systems checks have so far revealed that there is still a Remote Access Unit coupled to the Razza's systems via the main Engineering Access [GM note: this is not in the two Engineering Control rooms, the one where Lisa's cradle is, nor the one where the 3D Nanite Assembly tank is. The coupling is in the Engineering Bay behind those two rooms, which can only be accessed via either of the rear Nacell bays, who's access is on the Upper Main Deck. This does mean that there are several Blast doors now in need of repair as the GA cut their way through in-order to fit the device as Five had locked down all the Bridge consoles, including the Security Access Terminals.] Five goes to remove the Unit. [GM Note: the control unit for the Remote Access Terminal, is in its case in the Engineering control room where Lisa's cradle is. Again this door has been cut through to gain access. This is the same sort of unit you used on the Far Horizon Mission.]
Three, having obtained the Vault code from Two, the code having been
changed after the Wexlar incident, enters the Cargo bay on his way to
the Vault. The first thing he notices is that several of the ISO cargo
containers are missing along with the crates of weapons that were still
left in the cargo bay. The missing ISO container are the Designer
Wooden Furniture, mixed dried foodstuffs, assorted mixed recycling,
general mixed waste, assorted generic workday clothing, and the Luxuary
Furniture.
The remaining containers are the scrap steel, assorted scrap metals
(although you've significantly reduce the usable material in this
container, and the hydroponics supplies (although the container is now
half empty).
Opening the vault Three finds there is nothing missing [GM Note: Only Five and Two knew the changed code to the Vault.] His room, along with everyone elses, having been stripped of modern weapons [GM Note: Four's Sword is in his room and there are no weapons missing from the Dojo], leaves him feeling naked so he removes the heavy weapons from the armoury in the Vault, along with a couple of assault rifles and selection of pistols.
[GM note: This is one of the bits I neglected to sort out in session] Seven upon reaching the Med bay with the doctor, who's name is Devon by the way, is assisted into one of the med bay beds. As Devon checks around medical looking for supplies both to continue Seven's treatment and to deal with Six's wound, finds that the supply cupboards are pretty empty. All the coagulant drugs and patches you brought are gone, along with all drugs that are generally not 'over the counter' drugs, which includes any Mprphine and other similar doctor administered pain-relief drugs and sedatives. This means he would have to severly slow Seven's morphine drip to make it last as long as possible, meaning Seven is not going to be able to go anywhere anytime soon. There are just about enough supplies left to treat Six's wound.
Still unable to neurally link Lisa, having discussed things with Two, tries to initiate a link manually. It doesn't initially appear to be successful, but as she has no idea what the issue is she has no option to leave it running whilst she tries some further diagnostics, whilst computing the FTL course for the 74LY jump.
As Lisa computes the course people adjourn to cabins to shower and change out of prison uniforms, and then to the Mess to get some real food. Course computed Lisa initiates the FTL jump and then comms Two. She has a theory as to why she can't establish a link, but she needs to use the scanners in Medical to confirm her hypothesis.
Two and Five join her in Medical. Running a full scan, the scan
reveals what Lisa suspected. The intrusive nature of the attempted
forced retrieveal of the files by the GA has caused significant damage
to her neural matrix, specifically to her neural link, higher level
functions, and self-diagnostics.
Five asks if she can repair the damage. Lisa says yes but she will need to shutdown for approximately 32 hours to do so. There is a brief discussion, but as they are not really going anywhere Two agrees but suggests Lisa adjourns to her cradle. [GM Note: The door to the Engineering Control room where her cradle is, is partially repaired by this point, such that it does now lock,]
[GM Note: There was then some discussion about need to debrief Six, and some sort of move towards a meeting in the conferance room which is sort of where we left things.]
