A change of pace this week. Deepam arrived late due to his "man and a van" being unable to tell the time. Marcus is probably out until after the end of August due to his road work issues so we'll just have to progress without him.
We pick up where we left it last week with the party in Dierdre's tower discussing the options presented to them by the Book of Selheim -both Fane and I had copies this week....
Fane sets to discussing the elements of the ritual of Selheim (The Binding Ritual of Rodian) with Cordelia, Sorcha, and Dierdre, whilst Kohaku and Damon chip in with the occasional question on the subjects raised. From reading the book the names of the Serpent, Kraken, and Phoenix are clear meaning by definition the references to Azreal in the ritual must refer to the Unicorn. Apart from the obvious blood and body part requirements, the other elements required for the ritual are less clear. The refereneces to Yggotheran are probably to the tree which sits at the approximate centre of shadow (if there is such a thing). The Sword of Justice is unknown but could be a reference to Brand's blade. Cordelia confrms it's not a reference to her fathers blade Grayswandir.
Of the other three element the Diamond of Dreams is a completely unknown quantity. The Jewel of Judgement was well known as the gem possed by the King of Amber, and used by both Oberon and Corwin to reinscribe and inscribe Patterns. Random was known to have it until Dworkin embedded it in Corals eye socket. Cordelia doesn't know where Coral is currently located. The Jewel of Justice is another unknown. There were rumours in Amber of a compatriot Jewel to the Jewel of Judgement possessed by the Rembans but nobody ever confirmed this. It would be logical to assume that Brand doesn't siege and sack somewhere as difficult to take as Remba for no reason, therefore the Jewel must exist and it is likely that Brand now possess it.
The options as to what to do next therefore seem to boil down to locating Coral, checking out Ygg, or possibly summoning the Unicorn. In any event the next Incursion is not for another 6 days local time so they have 6 days to kill. Kohaku starts by reading the Book of Selheim, before passing the book to Damon. She then enganges in some Mogwai training.
As the incursion gets underway, Cordelia draws her trump of Ygg and opens a gate. Fane, Kohaku, Allanon, Damon, and Sorcha pass trhough before Cordelia joins them.
Allanon starts to bring up the Pattern to examine the tree. Fane walks across to the tree and tries to commune with it. Satisfied it is an object of power, Allanon reconfigures the Pattern to try an search for the Chalice and Blade. All he gets is being dizzy. Kohaku brings up the Pattern and examines the tree, then gets Static to zap it. The tree swats Static rendering her unconscious. Fane realizes the tree is sentient but can't focus enough to communicate with it. He breaks off his attempt and tells Allanon of his findings.
Allanon tries the same communication trick and after a few minutes gets a sort of response from the tree, although its responses always seem long, slow, and cryptic, as if it takes a long time to translate it's response into concepts the human mind can understand.[GM hint incase they all didn't make this conclusion].
