The Loretta Bow departs on the late morning tide and Kohaku takes charge of the first phase of hellriding to Carnelian. The first shadow shifts are met with sounds of chaos as Kohaku forgets the first rule of hellriding on a ship .. you need a covering storm to stop the crew going mad and to help suppress encountering any greeblies in the shadows you traverse. It's remarkable how quick both Llewella and Cordelia appear below decks where Kohaku has her hammock.
Kohaku shadow shifts them into a storm then begins the hellride to Carnelian. Allanon asks about the segment of the book of Selheim that Dierdre gave Cordelia, and she gives him the book, after spending an hour just working out what its contents is at a summary level.
Cordelia waits until the incursion starts at midnight an then trumps Dierdre. Fane, Sorcha, and her then transfer to Dierdre's tower. She takes the book with her as Allanon believes it will be safer there than with them.
Whilst Kohaku, and Allanon take it in turns to make progress towards Carnelian, Cordelia accompanied by Fane and Sorcha attempts to locate Dworkin.
After several fruitless days of searching Cordelia after discussing the situation with Fane and Sorcha decides to change tactic. Rather than searching for Dworkin directly she starts to move through shadow to shadows where the chances of finding Dworkin are greater.
After several more days Cordelia and co start to find traces that indicate somebody travelling through shadow came this way in a hurry. The signature coupled with the probability manipulation indicate that there is a very high chance that person was Dworkin.
Increasing amounts of shadow destruction and obstacles indicate that Cordelia and co are closing in on their target but also that that target has been involved in some sort of battle or confrontation itself. Amongst the evidence are a number of what could be scales, possibly from a large reptile of some kind. Finidng his claws fail to mark the scales at all Fane takes one with him.
Cordelia and co come across a very strange scene. A figure resembling Dworkin is semi-aimlessly, as if distracted by something, wandering about what appears to be a lava field picking up reptile scales and then throwing them into a pit of liquid lava. The party approach to the limit of what is comfortable and wait for the figure to notice them. Eventually it does so, at which point a rather sereal conversation takes place which results in the figure giving Fane, what he initially thinks is a trump, but which on later examination appears to just be a piece of card. It also suggests that they should look for him in Undershadow.
Cordelia and co depart heading in the general direction of Dierdre's tower whilst waiting for the next incursion, which Cordelia uses to trump them back to the tower.
Kohaku, Allanon, and co arrive at a port a day or so shadow walking from Carnelian and disembark. They set off towards the shadow in which the castle lies
After nearly 14 hours of travel it dawns on Allanon that the only method they have of getting into the castle is via the cleft and that with Llewella injured this is not a sensible idea. They search for a inn in which Llewella and Benedict can wait whilst Allanon travels to the castle and works out how to use the tunnel.
It's shortly after 9:30am local time when they emerge into the castle and make their way to the CIC to sort out accomodation for Benedict and Llewella. Kohaku installs Damon into the room used by Isocrates and tells him to memorize the room. She returns an hour later to collect him and takes him down to the Pattern [Damon was being played to the hilt by Deepam at this point which was highly amusing - well done Deeps]. Eventually he walks the Pattern and after a certain amount of debate it's decided he returns to the room he's been assigned.
