Diary, I awoke to find myself curled up in the corner of a dark room with strangers. I guess it wasn't a dream then.
I had something to eat and had a wonderful pot of green tea, just what I needed to get my head around everything that's happened. I was going through everything that had happened yesterday when Cordelia mentioned the name Random again and pulled me away from my thoughts. I asked her who he was and she tells me he's the king of Amber. If he is my father then I guess that makes me some kind of half-princess, the silly girls from school would have been so jealous. It also makes the blind woman at the table my step-mother. Which just reminds me about my real mother. I hope she's surviving those monsters back home. I hope this little war breaking won't take much longer.
While Cordelia is speaking to this queen (I think her name was Vialle?) I overheard that she still doesn't believe Dierdre is alive, we're going to have to prove ourselves somehow before we can sort out this mess and go home. She went for a shower and afterwards whilst getting dresses she froze completely, one of my companions attempted to shake her out of her strange state and froze upon touching her where he then preceded to walk back to the chair he had recently vacated as if in a dream. She unfreezes later and tells how he was lucky Fiona didn't kill him. Somehow she can talk to these people as if she had some kind of mobile phone in her head! And this Fiona needs something called mortars, which we are going to help her get, maybe this will help them believe that we are just here to help!
Cordelia says I'm an Amberite. Maybe that's what it's called when your father was from this Amber place? She says the guy in the sandals is an Amberite as well, maybe my father got around... If that wasn't weird enough, the pale guy is a shapeshifter and the one in the robe is a mage? Imagine worlds out there where shifting your shape and making magic happens everyday! They're probably used to this mad world full of tentacles, parallel worlds and phones in your head! So we set off on our journey to get these mortar things and outside of the bunker was Cordelia's Mogwai, he looked just like Scarlett! So Cordelia must be a Mogwai trainer too, finally, someone normal! (apart from that head phone thing). She sends this Mogwai off and we travel to the minibus. The world out here really looks like it's really been through the wars, and we walked past this huge pit filled with charred demon creatures, they looked pretty creepy.
We reached the minibus and hopped on, Cordelia's Mogwai came back and kicked the sandals guy (now wearing boots provided by Cordelia) out of the front seat. I really like that dog. Sandals acted like he'd never seen anything like a minibus before, I suppose he may well hadn't. It was quite entertaining anyway. Also entertaining was the view outside which kept changing, small subtle changes that just didn't make sense. Apparently this is how shadow shifting works, I didn't notice it at first but after a while it seemed pretty obvious. So this shadow shifting let's us travel further across the land in a short time and means we cross over different parallel worlds. I asked Cordelia if I could learn this skill to get back home and she said I could if I walked the pattern. If memory serves that was the thing we're supposed to be fixing so I guess I wont find a shortcut home that way.
The landscape changes to rocky hills and the land is filled with fallen trees when we pull up to a drive, Cordelia tells us to stay in the bus and walks towards the house. She used a makeshift white flag and walked slowly and carefully. She seemed so fearless until then, but I guess it would be stupid to just stride right up there, considering the things I saw greeting her. Tall women with silver skin and wings, they looked seriously dangerous. Cordelia entered the building with them and exited shortly after with our newest companion named Hou-Jin. Apparently he can drive these vehicles we're going to be using.
We ride the minibus for quite a while and the terrain changes over time to a grassier area. We pull up to a large wooden building with a fenced grassy area and get out. I was enjoying the leg stretching when the Fane came back from the field with three creatures with strings tied around their head. I asked him if they would understand English but he seemed confused. As did the "horse" when I introduced myself to it. Fane told me it was a "dumb animal" and indeed it seemed to be, it stood there whilst Fane put a riding seat on it's back and instead of telling the creature where to go like I would back home, I had to tug it's head into the right direction via the strings.
We rode these horses some distance. Long enough for me to almost lose the use of my own legs! We walked the rest of the way - or tried to walk! Then we arrived at our destination, a log cabin, and Fane hit the horses and they sped off into the trees. I'm glad to see the back of them but I do wonder how those stupid animals are going to survive without human carers. This cabin happened to have enough food for all us and was empty, it was highly convenient but I'm not complaining and it's here I'm spending the night.
