Well, that answers a few questions! Amber: "The Centre of the Universe?" All else is a copy and unreal?
Cordellia (my mentor, it appears) has revealed my "true destiny" and set free my "natural abilities". I can influence reality; walk to other worlds, the possibilities could be endless. Also, Llewella, that little minx who dragged me here (I can't believe I had to be tricked into coming here!) took me down to Rebma, where we had "a little chat" about things called Trumps. Not quite so hot with that, but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough. Not convinced I should really be writing my innermost thoughts down, as the rest of the family play their cards damned close to their chests. I think the truth lies in their character and personality rather than their actions.
As an Amberite (sounds like an insect, doesn't it?) - the fact that anything is possible, depending on where you go, is undeniable. So, as I travel through space (distance, rather than the astral void) I have the power to, if not to influence reality, then influence what is probable.
I have to physically move to alter my reality (or rather moving to where what I seek is more likely to exist), but this may simply be a limitation on the power of my mind. However, I should not, must not, underestimate my elders. Brand, for instance, may not need to move at all to affect the reality around him.
Omnipotent? - perhaps he is. Sane? - that depends on your point of view. Whether he released Rodian and her children deliberately or not is irrelevant, whether he meant for what is going to happen, is. My guess is that he is mad; either for thinking he could control it, or for unleashing it on the universe. It's times like these that you realise you have to start thinking in terms other than "The World", as it just doesn't encompass the scale of things any more. I need to try and get inside his mind to truly understand his motives. And having been interrogated by him for some time, has pointed me in the right direction.
Combining this with my shape-shifting abilities should assist in creating a psychiatric portrait. I've never thought of myself as a "shrink" before, but then, I never thought of myself as a near-immortal god. I am aware of the dangers of attempting to think like my "enemy" but I have few alternatives.
I consider her the workhorse of the Elder Amberites.
Why she collapsed after walking the pattern has yet to be determined. It is a pity I left the Pattern room at Castle Cornelian before witnessing her "injury". Her mind was a void, a dangerous void, when I tried to contact her telepathically. Whether this means that the person on the table is really her or not, or just a pattern construct created by Fiona, I haven't the foggiest. Time will tell. I have more pressing matters, such as surviving the re-entry of Castle Amber.
Jolly decent chaps who wouldn't dream of reading my character profile notes.
Allegedly (I could use that word for everything here!) stopping Brand from using his living trump abilities. What she was going to talk about with Cordellia is something I should ask Fiona when I see her next.
I don't trust her. Why I should freeze while A&A have to deal with the Rodian demons I have my suspicions, which I dare not refer to here - but as to their cause I should consider the facts.
Effects occurred when Dierdre snatched us. She claims this is when they sleep (memory getting hazy here..) which would indicate they lie deep in shadow, nearing Chaos Courts perhaps. Perhaps they dwell in the abyss? The effects last one hour and occur upon the thirteenth strike of an invisible "clock", which suggests external assistance, a device or construct perhaps.
Why they manifest for exactly that length of time, rather than us simply stumbling upon them as we travel shadow is the big issue. They are certainly "real". And dangerous. Alfred is not in good shape since his second dance with the enemy.
I'm rambling. I had better stop now before I confuse myself.I hope the book in Amber's library has something sensible to say on the matter.
