The Keep of the Thirteenth Hour

Heroes of the Hour - Allanon Silver

Allanon's Diary

28/08/2150
Location: Castle Carnelia

When I finally came around, I found I was in my room.

Something seemed off though, I remember passing out on the floor, hmmm someone must have put me in the bed.

I suspect Cordelia or one of the servants most likely did.

I was incredibly hungry, and not to mention reeked. I had probably been in the same clothes for several days.

When a servant came to my room, I requested my current clothes be washed and to have some breakfast and a change of clothing while my current clothing is washed.

I asked the man how long I had been out for, but his answer was most unhelpful. Therefore I resigned the idea to get the answer from him and would ask Fane or Cordelia when I next see them.

Once I had a shower and ate, I decided to get on with what's important, and start preparing some spells. Hopefully they will come in handy now that I am able to cast in this world.

Once I was done preparing my spells, Fane showed up at the door. He told me of how Cordelia had collapsed on the pattern, something that normally does not happen unless its your first time.

This was very troubling, thus far we had relied on her guidance. Once the rest of us have had more time training and understanding the pattern, we will need to discuss our next plan of action.

He also informed me of how I had been unconscious for 2 days, no wonder I was hungry and stank.

Fane also informed me that we could now understand and communicate with Isokretes and he could understand us, what a relief.

Fane also mentioned how Luke would be back in a few days after collecting some coal, I can only guess that's how they heat the castle knowing technology does not work here, as my cybernetics are not functioning.

After our conversation I went to the mess hall, and asked around if there was anywhere I could spar in some sword fighting and if there was anyone who would train with me, I was told by one of the guards that I could spar in the courtyard, but with the current affairs I would find it difficult to find someone to train/spar with.

To be honest I was more interested in learning more about the pattern, but with Cordelia unconscious, Luke on a trip and Fiona in the pattern, it seemed as though we would have to rely on learning them ourselves.

After a while, Fane and Isokretes arrived, Fane decided he would go report his findings from searching the town to the commander and Isokretes decided to re-walk the pattern.

While he was walking, he looked to be talking to someone, but I could not see anything. He explained how he talked to the ghost/imprinted image of Corwin when he last walked this pattern. He mentioned how talking to Fiona was a bad idea and various other details including how re-walking the pattern was unnecessary.

He also mentioned that somehow this memory of Cowin attacked Cordelia, and it was not a physical attack but a mental attack.

I knew Isokretes was hiding something, thus I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to test out my magic again. I tried to read his mind, but I could sense some considerable resistance and he had noticed me trying to enter his mind. This only ever happened when I have tried to read those of incredible willpower, such as the senior mages from the guild. Isokretes must have an incredible mental ability/capacity, he should probably drop the sword and learn to cast magic, he'd probably have the aptitude for it.

After he noticed, I quickly stop casting, I did not want to cause any mistrust amongst us, especially as we have only just been able to understand one another now.

He told me more about how to use the pattern without having to re-walk it, as that was what he was holding back. One thing that did not make sense, if we do not need to re-walk the pattern to use it, why did Cordelia go into the pattern?

Afterward, me, Isokretes and Fane spared in our swordsmanship. It seems as though Isokretes could do with some considerable training, but I found me and Fane to be of similar capability, although I was only slightly faster then him.

This fustrates me greatly, I understand that he is no amateurs, but clearly if my cybernetics were working I would have bested him. Knowing this, and how I feel sluggish without my cybernetics for the first time since they stopped working is annoying me.

After our sparing, we decided to retire for the night. In my room I practiced imagining the pattern in my mind, this took several hours and tired me.

My agenda from tomorrow onward is to get back to doing my routine physical exercises and training that would be mandatory in the military.

I will also try and experiment with this pattern now I know a little more about utilizing it in my mind. The first step on the agenda will be to try and pull the pattern into my body, similar to my internal lacrima, and therefore to try and use it as a power outlet for spell casting. But small steps first, I shall attempt to focus on pulling the pattern into my body.
