Chapter 14 - Faster than a speeding chicken

I have been playing around with molding shadow and managed to change the current shadow from a 1.5 to a 2 times shadow. It wasn't as easy as it sound and I have found that although you can bend things slightly, you cannot just change them outright.

I was asleep at the farmhouse, trying to rest my wound when I got that funny sensation something wasn't right. I got out of bed, grabbed my sword and had a peek out the front door. I large rift had opened and demons similar to the ones that helped us out of the unicorn grove. Cordellia and Sorcha ran out of the farmhouse on the other side of the courtyard and started attacking the nearest ones, but more were pouring out of the rift.

It didn't look like we had a hope of beating them and we should have been just trying to get the hell out of there, but everyone was already in the thick of it. I went out the window and raced down the outside of the farmhouse to the back of the barn where Alfred and the unicorn were held up. I was going to put up a pattern defence shield and at least try and protect Alfred from the abyssal energy the demons were throwing around.

As I arrived down there I saw something shoot out of the top of the barn and by the time I got in there, there was only the unicorn. Cordelia said that Alfred and Sorcha had gone into their primal forms and fled. She was pretty pissed off that I hadn't been there to help. Oh well, I was pretty pissed off that they ran out into the courtyard and started attacking the demons. She went off looking for Sorcha with the unicorn and I went off tracking Alfred.

By looking at signs in the pattern, I was able to detect where he had been, he just seemed to be fleeing through shadow. I finally managed to find him huddled deep in a very narrow cave network. I tried to reach him, but he fled deeper when he heard me coming and I ended up having to follow him further through shadow. I managed to bring up a scrying lens and send it down the cave to have a look, but again, he sensed it and fled through shadow. I found him again and this time took some precautions, molding the shadow so that shadow walking was very difficult. I then sent a scrying lens down again and put it very close to him. I used all my mental effort to shout his name through the lens and try and get his attention. I assume it worked, because by the time I had woken up from a prolonged unconsciousness, he was there.

We headed off looking for Cordelia and Sorcha. When the 13th hour approached, we stopped, but this time the world didn't freeze, the gong just kept on ringing. The world shimmered and everything became slightly more real. Alfred and I came to the conclusion that this could only mean the seal was broken and Rodian was loose. Cordelia trump called us and brought us back to the tower of Elysium. It had been completely transformed into a fortress.

She contacted Charity, who was leading an army back to the tower in order to defend it, I trumped out to her location and took control of the army, to lead it back to Elysium. They seem well equipped, with rail/gauss guns, but we may need a bit more equipment.
