Chapter x+3 - Journeys in Undershadow

For a while we seemed stuck next to Deirdre's tower in Undershadow. We couldn't move away from the tower, nor from each other, and only thought we could walk somewhere.

Eventually we discovered that we could travel by 'shadow-walking'. Only those of us skilled at this could do it - ie Charity and Cordelia. The others had to be led.

It seems that under-shadow isn't as empty as we first thought. We did pass a town at one point, about 1-2 miles (if the word makes any sense here) away. We also passed a couple of needles - apparently way markers. They were covered in some sort of heirogliphics that we could not read, understand, or even copy onto paper.

Eventually, after a couple of stops we arrived at the place were Dworkin was. Cordelia had been saying that she could feel which way to travel, and we had had no choice but to believe her.

The town itself was very odd. Strangely shaped houses were everywhere, apparently defying normal construction. The town itself was deserted. We passed through to the centre where there was a building with a large hall, in the middle of which seemed to be a body. It turned out that this was Dworkin, and he did speak to us, saying that he had died fighting Tiamat. He didn't seem bothered about this, and it didn't seem to make a difference to him.

He then talked about various things - we said who we were, and those of us who knew our parents said who they were. He called the rest bastards, although I don't think that he was in any position to criticise any sexual morals (according to the book of Selheim). He said that if we died here we would trully die, although I don't think that I ever thought otherwise so this wasn't very helpful.

He also gave Cordelia the rest of the book of Selheim, so it now seems that we have all of it. We had been reading some of it on the way here, but it is difficult reading. The first chapter (more of an introduction) is quite simple, but after that it changes, as if written by someone else.

This next chapter describes the beginning, and the first few creatures formed. It calls them the Kraken, the Serpent, and the Phoenix. It describes what they did in the beginning, and how shadow and the logris was created. It also describes a creature called the Unicorn (which seems to be black), and how it mated with Augustine Barryman (I believe this is Dworkin).

It seems that the book itself has much information that is useful, and we're probably going to have to read it carefully once back at the tower.
